Baseball Game Preview: Mitchell Mountaineers vs. Avery County Vikings

For the second straight game, Mitchell will face off against Avery County. The Mountaineers will square off against the Vikings at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Mitchell is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.

Mitchell lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Avery County, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Monday's game. The Mountaineers were the clear victors by a 12-4 margin over the Vikings on Monday.

Riley Silver made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off nine hits. Silver was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, Mitchell got a massive performance out of Kaj Pitman, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. The Mountaineers are 6-2 when Pitman posts two or more runs, but 5-8 otherwise. Kaden Buchanan was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.

Mitchell now has a winning record of 11-10. As for Avery County, their defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 3-13.
