Recap: Calallen Wildcats vs. Miller Buccaneers
The Calallen Wildcats won against the Miller Buccaneers on Friday with 62 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Saturday. Calallen came out on top against Miller by a score of 62-49. Given Calallen's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 442nd, while Miller is ranked 948th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Miller's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Hailey Martinez, who scored 17 points. Martinez scored a full 34.7% of Miller's points, the 20th time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Julissa Ramirez was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with six rebounds.
Calallen has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season. As for Miller, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-14.
Calallen will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against Port Aransas at 12:00 p.m. on December 30, 2023. As for Miller, they will take on Ray at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Ray is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
