Softball Game Preview: Dunedin Falcons vs. St. Petersburg Green Devils

The Dunedin Falcons will head out on the road to face off against the St. Petersburg Green Devils at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Dunedin is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.

Dunedin took a loss when they played away from home on Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They came out on top against Clearwater by a score of 3-2 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game).

Abby McLemore made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. McLemore was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Meanwhile, St. Petersburg was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their tenth straight defeat. They came up short against Manatee, falling 18-1. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, the Green Devils couldn't push the score so high this time.

St. Petersburg saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Novalee Rollins, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.

Dunedin's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-4. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for St. Petersburg, their loss dropped their record down to 1-14.

St. Petersburg's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Monday. Dunedin has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.5 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for St. Petersburg, though, as they've been averaging only 2 strikeouts. Will Dunedin keep running through batters, or will the Green Devils buck the trend?

Dunedin suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to St. Petersburg in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Falcons avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
