Basketball Recap: Michael Carlson's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Woodcrest Christian over Aquinas

Woodcrest Christian was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat. They received a blow as they fell 80-61 to the Aquinas Falcons. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Royals this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 59-40 on January 7th.

Woodcrest Christian lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Michael Carlson, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds. The dominant performance gave Carlson a new career-high in boards. Another player making a difference was Riley Downs, who almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine rebounds.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Aquinas to victory, but perhaps none more so than Lj Hall, who went 7 of 13 on his way to 18 points and seven assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Juju Mareno, who went 5 for 11 en route to 14 points in addition to five boards and three steals.

Woodcrest Christian's loss dropped their record down to 9-14. As for Aquinas, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-14.

Woodcrest Christian will square off against Ontario Christian at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Woodcrest Christian is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.5 points per game this season. As for Aquinas, they will face off against Damien at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
