League recap: San Ramon Valley scores huge upset over Amador Valley

The biggest upset of the week belonged to San Ramon Valley, who took down 106th ranked Amador Valley, 22-15.

Nikita Zamora and Jalen Avery provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Granada. The longest such play in East Bay this season, the connection resulted in 85 yards.

Monte Vista's dynamic duo of Zamora and Avery proved tough for the Matadors to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Zamora threw for 126 yards and one touchdown and Avery had 118 yards receiving. Mason Melin helped Monte Vista's passing attack out by catching three balls for 21 yards.

Karris Johnson was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 155 yards on 19 carries as California beat Granada. Teammate Blake Bierwith added to the ground attack by rushing for 68 yards.

Monte Vista's Zamora and Melin have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Zamora has thrown for 1028 yards this season, while Melin, a 6-foot-2 receiver, has 22 catches for 352 yards. The Grizzlies' Johnson leads the league in rushing yards with 555.

The top two teams in East Bay will face off this week when first place California takes on second place Monte Vista. Last week, California bested Foothill, while Craig Bergman's team topped the Matadors.

There should be lots of points scored when Eric Billeci's team and the Mustangs face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Grizzlies comes in having scored 189 this season, while Monte Vista has scored 162. California scored 36 points last week as it defeated the Falcons.

The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when the Grizzlies take on the Mustangs. California has allowed 103 points this season, while Monte Vista has given up 78. The Grizzlies allowed 7 points last week as they topped Foothill.

California extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating John Mannion's team, 36-7. The win marks fifth in a row for the the Grizzlies.
