Basketball Recap: Jules Lattea's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Tyler over Trimble

On Saturday, the Tyler Knights ended up a good deal behind the Trimble Tomcats and lost 44-30. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Knights came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 75th in West Virginia, while the Tomcats are ranked 305th in Ohio).

Tyler lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Jules Lattea, who posted six points and 15 rebounds. Lattea is becoming a predictor of Tyler's success: when she posts at least ten rebounds the team is 2-1 (and 0-4 when she doesn't). Another player making a difference was Faith Lemasters, who earned six points.

Even though they lost, Tyler smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 14 offensive boards in four consecutive matchups.

Leading Trimble to victory were Mckenzie Eing and Rilynn Fouts. Eing had 14 points and three steals, while Fouts posted 11 points and three steals. Eing has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Daisy Harvey, who put up six points and seven rebounds.

Tyler's defeat dropped their record down to 2-5. As for Trimble, they now have a winning record of 5-4.

Tyler wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, an 88-39 loss against Wheeling Central Catholic on the 30th. As for Trimble, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 42-36 victory against Notre Dame on the 3rd.
