Laton is 2-7 against Wonderful College Prep Academy since September of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Mustangs will head out on the road to face off against the Lions at 5:00 p.m.
Laton came up short against Legacy Christian Academy on Tuesday, falling 3-0.
The final score came out to 25-13, 25-12, 25-16.
Despite the defeat, Laton saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Sonia Hernandez had 14 digs. Camila Figueroa also deserves some recognition as she had her first block of the season.
Wonderful College Prep Academy extended their winning streak to four games thanks to a huge performance from Genesis Ortez. The Lions came out on top against Alpaugh by a score of 3-1 on Thursday for which the team can thank Ortez, who had 40 digs and two aces. She has been hot recently, having posted 34 or more digs the last three times she's played.
The match finished with set scores of 25-8, 25-17, 19-25, 25-7.
Wonderful College Prep Academy's win bumped their record up to 11-13. As for Laton, their loss dropped their record down to 5-14.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Monday's contest: Laton has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 10.9 aces per game. However, it's not like Wonderful College Prep Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
