Basketball Game Preview: Military Magnet Academy Eagles vs. First Baptist School Hurricanes

Military Magnet Academy hasn't had much luck against First Baptist School recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. Having just played yesterday, the Military Magnet Academy Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the First Baptist School Hurricanes at 7:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Military Magnet Academy is headed into the matchup after thoroughly thrashing Charleston Math & Science: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Military Magnet Academy blew Charleston Math & Science out of the water with a 111-6 final score. The Eagles pushed the score to 88-4 by the end of the third, a deficit the Riptide had no chance of recovering from.

Dream Watson was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 20 points and 12 steals. Her evening made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Lamaria Brown, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and nine steals.

Military Magnet Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in three consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, First Baptist School came tearing into Friday's game with nine straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 44 points) and they left with even more momentum. They breezed by the Panthers to the tune of 80-15. Given the Hurricanes' advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 19th, while the Panthers are ranked 206th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Military Magnet Academy is also on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 14 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 20-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 26.4 points per game. As for First Baptist School, they pushed their record up to 23-2 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home.

Military Magnet Academy came up short against First Baptist School in their previous matchup back in January of 2022, falling 60-51. Can Military Magnet Academy avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
