Basketball Recap: Elkhorn Comes Up Short

After flying high against Lincoln Northwest last Saturday, Elkhorn came back down to earth. The Elkhorn Antlers took a 54-48 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Ashland-Greenwood Bluejays. The Antlers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bluejays apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Elkhorn lost on Thursday, don't look at Jake Petersen. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 19 points and 12 boards. Petersen continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Nixon Farmer, who posted 13 points.

Elkhorn's record is now 7-9. As for Ashland-Greenwood, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season.

Coming up, Elkhorn won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Hastings at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Ashland-Greenwood, they will take on Malcolm on Tuesday.
