Baseball Recap: Perry Central Takes a Loss

Perry Central dropped their record down to 6-7 on Saturday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins at home. They came up short against the McLean County Cougars, falling 9-3. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Commodores of the 5-3 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

Perry Central saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Zac Mitchell, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

As for McLean County, their win was their eighth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-4. Considering they have won eight matchups by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

On McLean County's side, Connor Mitchuson made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Those six strikeouts gave Mitchuson a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one double. He is becoming a predictor of McLean County's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 3-4 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Hayden Hudson and Layden Bozarth did most of the damage at the plate: Hudson went 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double, while Bozarth went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

Coming up, Perry Central will challenge Paoli at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for McLean County, they will take on Warren East at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.
