Baseball Preview: Derby Red Raiders vs. Wilby Wildcats
The Derby Red Raiders will head out on the road to challenge the Wilby Wildcats at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. Derby will be strutting in after a win while Wilby will be coming in after a loss.
Last Monday, Derby got themselves on the board against Crosby, but Crosby never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Bulldogs with a sharp 10-0 victory. The win was just what Derby needed coming off of a 28-3 defeat in their prior matchup.
Max Netto made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and only one hit while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Netto was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with a home run, two runs, and a stolen base.
In other batting news, Nicholas Sheridan was excellent, going 1-for-3 with a home run, three RBI, and a stolen base. Another player making a difference was Vincent Nuzzo, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Wilby was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their 19th straight loss. They suffered a tough 20-7 defeat at the hands of Kennedy.
The victory got Derby back to even at 1-1. As for Wilby, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.
