Baseball Recap: Coosa Valley Academy Takes a Loss

After flying high against The Rock last Thursday, Coosa Valley Academy came back down to earth. The Coosa Valley Academy Rebels fell just short of the Southern Academy Cougars by a score of 4-3 on Saturday. The Rebels were not able to make up for their loss to the Cougars from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

Sam Setzer was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He pitched six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed over his last four contests. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run and three stolen bases. He is becoming a predictor of Coosa Valley Academy's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 2-1 (and 4-10 when he doesn't).

Setzer wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jake McArthur, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Coosa Valley Academy's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 6-11. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Southern Academy, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-4.

Coosa Valley Academy didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 15-1 victory against Heritage Christian Academy on the 10th. Southern Academy will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Jackson Academy at 6:00 p.m. on March 20th. The last three games Southern Academy has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
