Football Recap: Girard Indians vs. Edison Wildcats
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Girard had no problem doing just that on Friday. They blew past the Edison Wildcats, posting a 44-7 victory. Given the Indians' advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio football rankings (they are ranked 175th, while the Wildcats are ranked 414th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Dominick Tolone was the offensive standout of the match as he rushed for 64 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 207 yards on only 14 passes. Those 64 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. A healthy portion of Tolone's aerial production (135 yards to be exact) went to Tyler Wilson.
Girard was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 273 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 220 rushing yards in three consecutive games.
One reason for the win was Girard's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. Leading the way was Allen Hess-Cardona with two. He has been hot recently, having also posted six or more total tackles the last four times he's played.
Girard pushed their record up to 7-4 with the win, which was their third straight at home. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 36.7 points. As for Edison, their loss dropped their record down to 7-4.
