Game recap: Marysville comes out on top in shoot out with Mesa Verde

In a back and forth game, Marysville (Calif.)'s offense came through to hand the the Indians a 36-34 win.

After taking the lead on a touchdown pass by Francisco Garcia to Austin Sellers in the second quarter, the Indians led 28-21 at the half.

Marysville saw its 7-point halftime lead fall to six entering the fourth.

MHS led by as many as 13 points before the Mavericks cut into the final margin.

Garcia was the top performer for the Indians. The junior running back threw two touchdowns and ran for one touchdown.

Christian Garcia made a difference for Mesa Verde. The junior ran for three touchdowns and caught one touchdown. He has now scored eight touchdowns on the season.



A 40-6 Marysville victory was the result when the squads faced off last season.

The victory was a step in the right direction for MHS, which was coming off a 35-0 defeat at the hands of Mira Loma in its previous game.

Marysville (1-5) will play a Golden Empire game against Capital Christian next week, while Mesa Verde (1-5) will take on West Campus also in a Golden Empire game.
