Preview: Denton Broncos vs. Richland Royals
Denton is 0-6 against Richland since January of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Denton Broncos will head out on the road to take on the Richland Royals at 7:30 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Denton fought the good fight in their overtime contest against Argyle on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell to the Eagles 46-40. While losing is never fun, Denton can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 403rd, while Argyle is ranked 24th).
Despite the loss, Denton had strong showings from Ethan Sheats, who scored 13 points, and Chase Thomas, who scored 12 points.
Meanwhile, Richland's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They took a 53-49 hit to the loss column at the hands of Grapevine.
Denton has not been sharp recently, as they've lost six of their last seven games, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-16 record this season. As for Richland, their loss was their sixth straight at home, which bumped their record down to 4-16.
Denton came up short against Richland in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, falling 57-51. Can Denton avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
