Soccer Game Preview: South Lenoir vs. Lejeune

South Lenoir hasn't had much luck against Lejeune recently, but that could start to change on Monday. South Lenoir will square off against Lejeune at 6:00 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

South Lenoir barely beat North Lenoir the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. South Lenoir's defense stepped up to hand North Lenoir a 6-0 shutout on Friday. The match marked South Lenoir's most dominant win of the season so far.

They hit North Lenoir with a four-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Emily Jones (2), Leslie Gonzalez (2), Abiguel Argueta-Bautista, and Gracie Tyndall.

Meanwhile, Lejeune hadn't done well against East Carteret recently (they were 0-8-1 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. Lejeune sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 victory over East Carteret. Given Lejeune's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina soccer rankings (they are ranked 151st, while East Carteret are ranked 394th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

The win made it two in a row for Lejeune and bumps their season record up to 8-0-1. As for South Lenoir, their victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 4-5.

South Lenoir suffered a grim 3-0 defeat to Lejeune when the teams last played on March 6th. Can South Lenoir avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
