Basketball Recap: Florida Christian Snaps Seven-Game Streak of Losses on the Road

Florida Christian needed a changed in momentum after dropping five straight games and they got it from Kianny Gil. The Florida Christian Patriots walked away with a 47-39 win over the Don Soffer Aventura Barracuda on Tuesday thanks in part to Gil, who posted 20 points in addition to five boards and five steals. She has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played.

The team also got some help courtesy of Faith Sumner, who put up five points and 13 rebounds. Those 13 boards gave her a new career-high.

Don Soffer Aventura's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Liana Kozko, who scored 23 points. That was a full 59% of Don Soffer Aventura's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Angelina Gonzalez, who had 12 points.

Florida Christian's victory ended a seven-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-8. As for Don Soffer Aventura, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Florida Christian will head out to square off against Westminster Christian at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Don Soffer Aventura, they will head out on the road to challenge FAU High at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
