Basketball Preview: Aurora Huskies vs. Waverly Vikings

Aurora is 2-8 against the Vikings since February of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Aurora Huskies will head out on the road to face off against the Waverly Vikings at 6:00 p.m. Aurora is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak.

Aurora struggled with assists on Tuesday (the Crusaders had 11 more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Aurora took a hard 52-35 fall against the Crusaders. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Aurora in their matchups with the Crusaders: they've now lost seven in a row.

The losing side was boosted by Denae Nachtigal, who scored eight points along with eight rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Addison Fahrnbruch, who scored eight points.

Meanwhile, Waverly faced the Cavaliers in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Waverly took down the Cavaliers 57-40 on Thursday.

Waverly's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Annie Harms, who scored 16 points. Parker Christiansen was another key contributor, scoring 16 points.

Aurora dropped their record down to 7-10 with that loss, which was their third straight at home. As for Waverly, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season.

Aurora suffered a grim 56-36 defeat to the Vikings in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. Can Aurora avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
