Preview: Westland Cougars vs. Pickerington North Panthers
Westland is 0-10 against Pickerington North since December of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Westland Cougars will head out on the road to challenge the Pickerington North Panthers at 7:30 p.m. Westland has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 27.
Westland pushed their score all the way to 64 on Wednesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell just short of Hamilton Township by a score of 66-64. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Westland in their matchups with Hamilton Township: they've now lost four in a row.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Sir Gathings, who scored 15 points along with five assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Franklin Tejada, who scored 13 points along with five assists and five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Pickerington North's four-game losing streak came to an end on Tuesday. They walked away with a 60-49 victory over Westerville Central.
Westland's defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 4-11. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.5 points per game. As for Pickerington North, their victory bumped their record up to 9-6.
Westland was taken down by Pickerington North 62-30 when the teams last played back in December of 2023. The game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Westland was down 47-12.
