Recap: Macon County Bulldogs vs. Colquitt County Packers
After a string of three wins, the Macon County Bulldogs's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They ended up on the wrong side of a rough 63-37 walloping at the hands of Colquitt County. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Macon County has scored all season.
Despite the defeat, Macon County saw an underclassman step up: Aliyah Lake scored 14 points along with six rebounds. The contest was Lake's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Morgan Cochran, who scored ten points along with nine rebounds and five blocks.
Macon County struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Colquitt County racked up ten assists.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Colquitt County to victory, but perhaps none more so than Amira Walters- Smith, who scored 25 points along with four steals. That makes it five consecutive games in which Walters- Smith has scored at least 25% of Colquitt County's points. Amareyia Knighton was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with six rebounds.
Macon County's defeat dropped their record down to 5-4. As for Colquitt County, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 7-0.
Macon County won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Dougherty at 3:00 p.m. on December 22, 2023. Dougherty has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. Colquitt County will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Veterans at 6:00 p.m. on December 22, 2023. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Georgia (Veterans is ranked 41st, while Colquitt County is ranked 30th).
