Baseball Recap: Granada Drops Highest Score of Season Against Livermore

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Granada). They put the hurt on the Livermore Cowboys with a sharp 18-4 victory on Wednesday. The Matadors might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matches by six runs or more this season.

Alex Piscotty looked comfortable as he pitched 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Mikey Boyd, who went 4-for-5 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. Estevan Duarte was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Granada was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .472. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

The win was the fourth in a row for Granada, bringing their record up to 19-4. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Livermore, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 12-11 record this season.

Granada will have a chance to go back-to-back against Livermore: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
