Basketball Recap: Torrington Falls Short Against Ranked Douglas

On Saturday, Torrington faced Douglas in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Torrington Trailblazers were beaten by the Douglas Bearcats 61-27. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Bearcats this season, with their most recent loss being a 70-41 defeat back in February.

Lauren Olsen continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Douglas, shooting 50% from the field on her way to 21 points in addition to six assists and six boards. The game was Olsen's 42nd in a row with at least 15 points. Jaden Meyer was another key player, going 5-for-12 to rack up 12 points along with six rebounds and three steals.

With the loss, Torrington broke their six-game winning streak and moved their record to 14-7. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.8 points over those games. As for Douglas, the victory was the 17th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 24-1.

Torrington does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Douglas, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Douglas Bearcats challenge Powell Panthers at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. They know how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 15 matchups -- so hopefully Powell like a good challenge.
