Preview: South Garner Titans vs. Fuquay - Varina Bengals
South Garner is 2-7 against Fuquay - Varina since January of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The South Garner Titans will head out on the road to face off against the Fuquay - Varina Bengals at 5:30 p.m. South Garner has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
South Garner scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 66-50 victory over Cleveland. Given South Garner's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 45th, while Cleveland is ranked 217th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
South Garner's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tamia Darden, who scored 18 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. Taylor Moore was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Fuquay - Varina suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Friday. They were outmatched by Willow Spring on the road and fell 66-32. Fuquay - Varina has struggled against Willow Spring recently, as their contest on Friday was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Chloe Webb, who scored six points along with nine rebounds and two steals. Another player making a difference was Aevri Harrington, who scored six points.
South Garner's win bumped their record up to 10-3. As for Fuquay - Varina, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-13.
South Garner strolled past Fuquay - Varina in their previous matchup back in January of 2023 by a score of 47-29. The rematch might be a little tougher for South Garner since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
