Basketball Recap: Braeden Hennelly Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Venture Academy

Christian Brothers had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They skirted past the Venture Academy Mustangs 72-70. This was payback for the Falcons, who suffered a 68-60 loss the last time these two teams met.

Christian Brothers' victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Braeden Hennelly, who shot 42% from the field on his way to 22 points and five boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaden DeJesus-Eves, who almost dropped a double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds.

Several Mustangs players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jayden Akuva, who went 7-for-14 en route to 15 points in addition to five assists and three steals. Akuva is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in each of the last six games he's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Josiah Johnson, who shot 44% from the field to rack up 18 points.

Coming up, Christian Brothers will take on Cathedral at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Venture Academy, they will square off against McClymonds at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
