Football Game Preview: Buchtel Griffins vs. Garfield Rams

Buchtel is a perfect 3-0 against Garfield since October of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The Griffins will challenge the Rams at 12:00 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

On Friday, Buchtel earned a 27-20 win over Ellet. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Griffins.

Daurean Johnson was a one-man wrecking crew as he picked up 128 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Those 128 receiving yards gave him a new career-high. Dwight Shade was in the mix as well, providing Buchtel with one TD.

Buchtel didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Shade, Quadire Harvey, and Mehki Wright picked up one apiece. Wright got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Meanwhile, Garfield gave up the first points on Saturday, but they didn't give up any more after. They came out on top against Firestone by a score of 26-13.

Garfield's victory bumped their record up to 4-2. As for Buchtel, the win was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 2-5.

Buchtel didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Garfield in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, but they still walked away with a 12-6 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Griffins since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
