Basketball Recap: Nairi Latham's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Marion P. Thomas over Newark Central

Marion P. Thomas lost against Newark Central back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. Marion P. Thomas fell to the Newark Central Blue Devils 56-52.

Several Marion P. Thomas players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Nairi Latham, who posted 24 points. The contest was Latham's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Kaz'Heme Chitty was another key player, putting up 13 points and five rebounds.

Even though they lost, Marion P. Thomas was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Newark Central only posted eight assists.

Yam'Bya Ndaw was the offensive standout of the matchup as he scored eight points in addition to 11 boards and five blocks. Ndaw is crushing it when it comes to blocks: he's posted at least three every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Drean Aikins, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 14 rebounds.

Marion P. Thomas now has a losing record at 7-8. As for Newark Central, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 3-11.

Marion P. Thomas didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 51-39 loss against Global Studies on the 28th. Newark Central has also already played their next contest, a 55-51 victory against Columbia on the 29th.
