Basketball Game Preview: Woodlawn Cardinals vs. Zeigler-Royalton Tornadoes

The Woodlawn Cardinals will square off against the Zeigler-Royalton Tornadoes at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Woodlawn is headed into Monday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight game on Friday. They were three points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 78-75 heartbreaker at the hands of New Athens.

Meanwhile, Zeigler-Royalton posted their closest win since January 24th on Saturday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Elverado 61-59. The win almost wasn't to be: the Tornadoes were down 35-21 in the second quarter.

Woodlawn better keep an eye on River Freeman. He was instrumental in Zeigler-Royalton's win, dropping a double-double with 33 points and 13 rebounds. The matchup was Freeman's fifth in a row with at least 15 points. Lucas Rogers was another key player, dropping a double-double with 13 points and 11 boards.

Woodlawn's defeat dropped their record down to 18-12. As for Zeigler-Royalton, their victory ended a seven-game drought on the road and puts them at 9-21.

Woodlawn came up short against Zeigler-Royalton in their previous matchup back in February of 2021, falling 64-57. Can Woodlawn avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
