Softball Game Preview: Krum Bobcats vs. Van Alstyne Panthers

For the second straight game, Krum will face off against Van Alstyne. The Bobcats will be playing in front of their home fans against the Panthers at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Krum 2.7, Van Alstyne 2.4) so any runs scored will be well earned.

The scorekeeper got an easy start on Thursday as neither Krum nor Van Alstyne made it on the board until the fifth inning. The Bobcats fell just short of the Panthers by a score of 6-5. The Bobcats' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Addison Martindale spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six earned runs on nine hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 17 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Taylor Fauver was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Paige Bianchi, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run and one double.

Van Alstyne pushed their record up to 19-6 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Krum, their loss dropped their record down to 22-4.
