Soccer Game Preview: Edgewood vs. Bassett

Edgewood and Bassett are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2021, but likely not for long. The Edgewood Lions will be playing at home against the Bassett Olympians at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Edgewood is headed into the matchup without a loss and will look to keep things rolling. They never let Workman onto the board and left with an 18-0 win on Tuesday. Given the Lions' advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 171st, while the Lobos are ranked 1164th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Bassett's found some homefield redemption this week after a overtime loss to La Puente on Tuesday. Everything went Bassett's way against Pomona as Bassett made off with an 11-2 victory. With the Olympians ahead 6-1 at the half, the game was all but over already.

Edgewood's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-0-2. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only given up zero goals over those three contests. As for Bassett, their victory bumped their record up to 9-4.

Edgewood came out on top in a nail-biter against Bassett in their previous meeting two weeks ago, sneaking past 1-0. Does Edgewood have another victory up their sleeve, or will Bassett turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
