Basketball Recap: Vinton County Takes a Loss

Vinton County lost against South Webster back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Vinton County Vikings were dealt a 76-44 defeat at the hands of the South Webster Jeeps. While losing is never fun, the Vikings can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 485th, while the Jeeps are ranked 38th).

South Webster's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Hunter Barnard, who went 10 of 11 on his way to 24 points. Those 24 points gave Barnard a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Eli Roberts, who went 8 for 17 on his way to 22 points and seven rebounds.

Vinton County dropped their record down to 4-4 with the loss, which was their third straight at home. As for South Webster, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 7-0.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Vinton County will venture away from home to take on Jackson at 7:30 p.m. on January 4, 2025. Jackson will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something Vinton County surely won't give up without a fight. As for South Webster, they will head out to challenge Wheelersburg at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
