Cardinal Spellman came into their game two weeks ago off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They were beaten by St. John the Baptist 63-12. The Pilots were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 43-0.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask St. Francis Prep). Cardinal Spellman better keep an eye on Sean Ibert. He was instrumental in St. Francis Prep's win, rushing for 122 yards and three touchdowns on only six carries. Those three rushing touchdowns gave Ibert a new career-high. Rocco Petronella was another key player, picking up 78 receiving yards and a pair of scores.
St. Francis Prep didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Kennedy Catholic to a completion percentage of just 37.5%. That dominant aerial defense primarily came from three players: Anthony Brown, Rafael Espinal, and Roderick Fordham, who each logged one passes deflected. St. Francis Prep has been improving in that area: they had allowed a completion percentage of 0.6 earlier this season, but they've only allowed one of 0.6 in their last three games.
St. Francis Prep now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Cardinal Spellman, their loss dropped their record down to 2-4.
Cardinal Spellman took a serious blow against St. Francis Prep when the teams last played back in October of 2024, falling 35-6. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of the Terriers' Jack Leary, who threw for 127 yards and two TDs while completing 77.8% of his passes. Now that the Pilots know the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
