Volleyball Recap: Cumberland Comes Up Short

Cumberland was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Hayward Hurricanes. If the Beavers were looking for revenge after losing 3-2 to the Hurricanes when the teams met back in September of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Cumberland started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The final score came out to 27-29, 25-17, 25-19, 25-20.

Their offense was headlined by Hailey Paulson and Kaylee Jackson, who picked up six kills apiece. They got some help from Natalie Anderson and her 14 assists. Jackson and Anderson didn't slow down when it came to serving: they led the team with three apiece.

Cumberland's loss dropped their record down to 5-29. As for Hayward, their win ended a five-match drought on the road and puts them at 16-14.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Cumberland is set to take on their familiar foe Ladysmith at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Hayward will face off against rival Northwestern at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
