Baseball Recap: Oakwood Comets vs. Heyworth Hornets
Oakwood had lost three straight on the road, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 15-13 to make it four. They fell 6-1 to the Heyworth Hornets. The Comets were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Hornets apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2023.
Oakwood saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Xander Wilson, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.
As for Heyworth, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 17-14. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.3 runs over those games.
On Heyworth's side, Noah Eldredge spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on five hits. Eldredge has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Oakwood will host Georgetown-Ridge Farm/Chrisman at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Heyworth, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Peoria Christian at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
