Basketball Recap: Wayne Blue Devils vs. Norfolk Catholic Knights
It was a good run, but the Wayne Blue Devils unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Friday. They fell 56-43 to Norfolk Catholic. Wayne was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Knights apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January.
Wayne lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Drue Davis, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds and two blocks. It was the first time this season that Davis posted two or more blocks. Another player making a difference was Colson Nelsen, who scored ten points along with two steals.
It was another big night for Nolan Fennessy, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 16 rebounds for Norfolk Catholic. Fennessy has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Carter Janssen, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Wayne's defeat dropped their record down to 15-4. As for Norfolk Catholic, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 11-6.
Wayne won't have much time to rest: their next game is against the Trojans at 3:15 p.m. on February 3rd. Norfolk Catholic will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against the Cardinals at 7:45 p.m. on February 3rd. Boone Central has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 294 points over their last five contests.
