Softball Recap: Nelson Wins Going Away Against Clackamas

Nelson won the last time they faced Clackamas and things went their way on Thursday too. Nelson was the clear victor by an 11-1 margin over Clackamas. Considering Nelson has won five games by more than nine runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Sofia Forbito spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Ellie Nix and Abigail Huspek did most of the damage at the plate: Nix went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run and three RBI, while Huspek went 2-for-3 with three runs and two doubles. Those two doubles gave Huspek a new career-high. Alyvia Pietsch was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Nelson kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are 4-2 when they post 11 or more hits.

Nelson has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Clackamas, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-12.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Nelson is set to take on their familiar foe Gresham at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Clackamas will square off against rival David Douglas at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
