Basketball Recap: Overland Takes a Loss

Overland was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They lost to the Cherokee Trail Cougars at home by a 60-46 margin. While losing is never fun, the Trailblazers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 56th, while the Cougars are ranked ninth).

When it comes to explaining why Overland lost, don't look at Emma Davis. Despite the final result, she posted 14 points and five steals. Overland is 9-4 when Davis posts three or more steals, but 2-4 otherwise. Ilaisaane Davis was another key player, putting up 13 points.

Cherokee Trail was led to victory by Delainey Miller and Aaliyah Broadus. Miller dropped a double-double on 19 points and 11 rebounds, while Broadus dropped a double-double on 16 points and 18 boards. What's more, Miller also posted a 73% field goal percentage, which is the highest she's posted since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was Madeline Gibbs, who had seven points.

Overland's loss dropped their record down to 11-8. As for Cherokee Trail, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-7.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Overland will square off against Smoky Hill at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Overland is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.4 points per game this season. As for Cherokee Trail, they will challenge Mullen at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Cherokee Trail also hasn't been messing around on offense: they've averaged 58.6 points per game.
