Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Campbell Childers and Evie Godfrey Lead Northside Christian Academy to Victory

Northside Christian Academy won the last time they faced Cardinal Newman and things went their way on Thursday too. The Northside Christian Academy Crusaders managed a 45-40 win over the Cardinal Newman Cardinals. Given the Crusaders' advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 44th, while the Cardinals are ranked 182nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Leading Northside Christian Academy to victory were Evie Godfrey and Campbell Childers. Godfrey posted 21 points along with five assists and four steals, while Childers earned 16 points and three steals. Godfrey is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Maddie Coker was another key player, putting up two points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals.

Despite the defeat, Cardinal Newman had strong showings from Zaria Thompson, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 18 boards, and Katherine Wilkinson, who went 5 for 7 to rack up 12 points. The dominant performance also gave Wilkinson a new career-high in shooting accuracy (71%).

Northside Christian Academy's record is now 21-2. As for Cardinal Newman, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 12 of their last 14 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-15 record this season.
