Baseball Recap: Evergreen Cougars vs. Thompson Valley Eagles

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Evergreen can now relate to. They fell just short of the Thompson Valley Eagles by a score of 5-3 on Friday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Evergreen of the 12-9 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2017.

Ryan Cook was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out 11 batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off only one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in nine consecutive pitching appearances.

At the plate, Jack Teska made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with a home run and three RBI.

On Thompson Valley's side, Evan Raabe was incredible, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with a home run, a stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Riley Suarez, who scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

Evergreen's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-10. As for Thompson Valley, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 18-6.

Evergreen does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Thompson Valley, they will face off against Mullen at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Thompson Valley is looking to tack on another W to their three-game streak on the road.
