Softball Game Preview: Central Bears vs. Weeki Wachee Hornets

Central hasn't had much luck against Weeki Wachee recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Bears will challenge the Hornets at 7:00 p.m. Weeki Wachee took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Central, who comes in off a win.

Having struggled with eight losses in a row, Central turned things around against Anclote on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 16-1 margin over the Sharks. The Bears not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 16, 2025 (when they won 17-2).

The team relied heavily on Natalie Atkinson, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four stolen bases, four runs, and four RBI. Those four stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Christina Barreto, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 15 runs the game before, Weeki Wachee was a bit more limited in their contest on Tuesday. They came up short against Wiregrass Ranch, falling 15-0.

Weeki Wachee's defeat dropped their record down to 4-16. As for Central, their win bumped their record up to 4-12.

Central got the 'W' in their previous meeting back in March against Weeki Wachee by a conclusive 15-5 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bears since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
