Softball Recap: Lake Park Gets the Win

Lake Park and Batavia pushed the score to 17-6 the last time they played Batavia, but on Monday defenses reigned supreme. The Lancers came out on top against the Bulldogs by a score of 2-0 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game). The victory continues a trend for the Lancers in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won eight in a row.

Not much got past Gianna Furlano, who gave up just two hits and racked up nine Ks to keep Batavia off the board. Furlano has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Lake Park's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Gaetana Calo, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.

Lake Park hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive matchups.

Lake Park's victory bumped their record up to 14-5. As for Batavia, they dropped their record down to 5-15 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lake Park will welcome Buffalo Grove at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday. As for Batavia, they will be playing at home against Geneva at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bulldogs are facing the Vikings at the right time seeing as the Vikings are stuck on a five-game losing streak.
