Basketball Recap: Spring Valley Comes Up Short

Spring Valley dropped to 6-14 on Friday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins at home. They were beaten by the Ridge View Blazers 65-27. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Blazers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 64-24 on January 7th.

Spring Valley's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Madison Bethea, who posted ten points in addition to five boards and three steals, and Mariah Moody, who scored ten points and eight rebounds.

As for Ridge View, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.1 points over those games.

Ridge View got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Reagan Ferguson out in front who shot 67% from the field on her way to 14 points. Ferguson has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last eight times she's played. Another player making a difference was Joliyah Robinson, who went 5-for-8 to rack up 12 points.

Coming up, Spring Valley will face off against Westwood at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Vikings' defense better be ready for this one: the Redhawks have averaged an impressive 50 points per game this season. As for Ridge View, they will square off against Lugoff-Elgin at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Blazers will be up against the Demons' rather soft defense (which has allowed 50.55 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
