Baseball Game Preview: South Mecklenburg Sabres vs. Ballantyne Ridge Wolves

For the second straight game, South Mecklenburg will face off against Ballantyne Ridge. The Sabres will venture away from home to face off against the Wolves at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. South Mecklenburg is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.

South Mecklenburg took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Wednesday. Everything went their way against Ballantyne Ridge as they made off with a 12-1 victory. The high-scoring effort was just what the Sabres needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.

Connor Longley looked comfortable as he struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and not a single walk). He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Chris Short was a standout: he scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Gabe Luke-Judy was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

South Mecklenburg is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Ballantyne Ridge, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-11.
