Oregon's Class 5A Offensive Player of the Year, Marist quarterback Logan Silver, signed to play football at Holy Cross.

In leading Marist to the state final game (a 26-23 over loss to Sherwood) and a 12-1 record, the 185-pound Silver totaled nearly 5,000 yards. In a semifinal win over Crescent Valley, Silver completed 20 passes for 347 yards, eight going for touchdowns, and rushed for 241 yards and another score. A letter winner in four sports, Silver earned honorable mention all-state honors as a baseball player in 2010. Located in Worcester, Mass., Holy Cross was 5-5 in the Patriot League in 2010.

* Alex Toureen, one of the most prolific receivers in Oregon prep football annals, will take his all-purpose game to Portland State. The Cottage Grove senior was a second team all-stater in 2010 and named the Sky-Em League's Offensive MVP when he caught 69 passes for 1,597 yards and rushed for 393 yards on 27 carries. In one game, Toureen had 302 receiving yards and five touchdowns in a win over Yreka (Calif.). As a junior, he had 56 catches for 1,090 yards and 16 touchdowns.

* Crescent Valley fullback/linebacker Kyle Gardner turned down a scholarship to play at Portland State to walk on at Oregon State. As a junior, the six-foot, 215-pound Gardner was Mid-Willamette Conference Defensive Player of Year.

JOHNSTON STEPS DOWN
Jim Johnston, the Triad (Klamath Falls) Timber Wolves' only head football coach in their four-season history, has resigned. During that brief span, Johnston guided the team to three state playoff appearances and back-to-back semifinals. Johnston went 31-10 at Triad, with half the losses coming in the program's first season. The Timber Wolves went 22-2 in Johnston's final two seasons. They play in the A1 Mountain Valley League.

ERIC WILLIAMS TO TRANSFER
Jesuit/Beaverton junior Eric Williams, the starting quarterback on the football team and a member of the reigning Class 6A champion basketball team, has transferred to St. Ignatius High School in Cleveland. Williams, 6-3, 191 pounds, passed for 1,405 yards and 13 touchdowns for the Crusaders in 2010 as they reached the state semifinals. St. Ignatius finished 4-6 in 2010 and did not qualify for the Ohio playoffs.
