Basketball Recap: Shades Valley Comes Up Short

After flying high against Fairfield last Tuesday, Shades Valley came back down to earth. The Shades Valley Mounties took a hard 62-48 fall against the Oxford Yellow Jackets on Thursday. While losing is never fun, the Mounties can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 133rd, while the Yellow Jackets are ranked 43rd).

Jaslyn Montgomery was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 19 points and 12 rebounds for Oxford. What's more, Montgomery also racked up three steals, the most she's had since back in December of 2023. Ava Thomas was another key player, going 6 for 13 on her way to 16 points and seven boards.

Shades Valley's loss dropped their record down to 12-7. As for Oxford, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 13-8.

Shades Valley has already played their next contest, a 48-44 win against Pell City on the 17th. As for Oxford, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 47-35 victory against Jasper on the 17th.
