Softball Recap: Hurley Comes Up Short

Hurley fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Greenfield on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Wildcats by a score of 11-10. The Tigers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Wildcats apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Addy Maxwell spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and nine unearned) runs on 12 hits and racked up ten Ks. Those ten strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

On the hitting side, Madi Conrad was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Dacia Grubbs was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.

Hurley now has a losing record of 2-3. As for Greenfield, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-6.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hurley will welcome Galena at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Greenfield, they will be playing at home against Golden City at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
