Football Recap: Xander Edwards Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Monarch

Bolles had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They took down the Monarch Knights 34-15 on Thursday. Given the Bulldogs' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 14th, while the Knights are ranked 70th) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Bolles' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Xander Edwards, who rushed for 157 yards and two scores on only 12 carries. Edwards' longest rush was for an impressive 61 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Jaden Weatherly was in the mix as well, providing Bolles with two TDs.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Bolles was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 236 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Monarch only rushed for 124 rushing yards.

When it comes to explaining why Monarch lost, don't look at Florentino Lopez. Despite the final result, he rushed for 92 yards and one touchdown, and also threw for 245 yards and one TD.

Coming up, Bolles will look to takes advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they takes on Trinity Christian Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Monarch, they will hit the road for the first time this season to square off against Deerfield Beach at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
