Baseball Recap: Ash Fork/Seligman Drops Season-High Score on Maryvale Prep

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Ash Fork/Seligman). They blew past the Maryvale Prep Matador 23-1 on Tuesday. The Spartans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matchups by ten runs or more this season.

Branson Milius made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over 2.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit (and only one walk). He is becoming a predictor of Ash Fork/Seligman's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is undefeated (and 1-4 when he doesn't). Milius was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Miclo Ayala, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. He has become a key player for Ash Fork/Seligman: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 0-4 otherwise. Jhovanny Vazquez was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.

Ash Fork/Seligman kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 20 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April of 2024.

Ash Fork/Seligman's win bumped their record up to 6-4. As for Maryvale Prep, their loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 1-8.

Looking ahead, Ash Fork/Seligman will take on Superior in a tournament on Thursday. As for Maryvale Prep, they are taking a road trip to face off against Tempe Prep at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Knights have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.1 runs per game on average), something the Matador will no doubt try to take advantage of.
