Baseball Game Preview: Perry Pumas vs. O'Connor Eagles

Perry and O'Connor are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2019, but likely not for long. The Pumas will challenge the Eagles on Thursday. Perry is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.

Perry is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They never let Tolleson get on the board and left with a 7-0 victory. The Pumas not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 20th (when they won 16-6).

Dominic Jochumsen looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five).

On the hitting side, Nick Grote was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Andrew Hover was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

Meanwhile, O'Connor faced Corona del Sol in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Eagles came up short against the Aztecs, falling 10-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Eagles have suffered against the Aztecs since February 26, 2015.

Perry's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-11. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for O'Connor, their loss dropped their record down to 19-11.

Perry couldn't quite get it done against O'Connor in their previous meeting back in April as they fell 5-2. Can the Pumas avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
