Softball Recap: Avon Lake Takes a Loss

After flying high against Elyria last Thursday, Avon Lake came back down to earth. The Shoremen fell 14-11 to the St. Joseph Academy Jaguars on Friday. Even though they lost, the Shoremen's still made a splash at the plate and bumped their average scoring up to 6.8 runs per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).

Carmen McMinn made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs while going 4-for-5. Another player making a difference was Sammy Cracas, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-5.

Avon Lake has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-4 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for St. Joseph Academy, the victory got them back to even at 3-3.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Avon Lake will square off against Olmsted Falls at 4:45 p.m. on Monday. The Bulldogs' pitching crew has only allowed 2.6 runs per game this season, so the Shoremen's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for St. Joseph Academy, they will take on Streetsboro at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Jaguars' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Rockets have averaged an impressive 8.2 runs per game this season.
