Basketball Recap: Classical Takes a Loss

Classical was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They were beaten by the St. Mary Academy-Bay View Bengals 69-42. The contest was a close 25-22 at the break, but unfortunately for the Purple it sure didn't stay that way.

St. Mary Academy-Bay View was led to victory by Genesis Castro and Qiana Sumner. Castro went 6 for 7 from beyond the arc on her way to 29 points and three steals, while Sumner dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten boards. With that strong performance, Castro is now averaging an impressive 15.7 points per game. Lailah Valles was another key player, putting up nine points.

Classical's defeat dropped their record down to 1-13. As for St. Mary Academy-Bay View, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 9-6.

Classical didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 62-12 loss against Portsmouth on the 7th. As for St. Mary Academy-Bay View, they have also already played their next match, a 69-39 victory against Chariho on the 7th.
